OUR BELIEFS

Founded in 1860 by Benjamin Titus Roberts, the Free Methodist Church was born from the desire to free worship from constraints that were distancing men and women from their ability to connect with God. Our church is a member of the Free Methodist Church of the United States of America, and therefore our beliefs align with its established doctrine. A complete copy of the doctrine can be found here, but to summarize our beliefs:

  • We believe there is one living and true God, and in the unity of this Godhead are three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. His son, Jesus Christ, who was born of the Virgin Mary, came to earth as a blameless sacrifice for our sins. He was crucified, rose from the dead, and ascended into Heaven until He returns. Jesus Christ was the perfect sacrifice for our sins. When we repent and accept His perfect sacrifice to begin a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, we are made new in Him.

  • We believe our final destiny is determined by our response to God’s grace. Those who accept the grace of God will enter Heaven, and those who do not will experience a hell of eternal suffering.

  • We believe the Bible, God’s word, was inspired by the Holy Spirit, and consequently, the Holy Spirit continues to speak to new generations and cultures through these Scriptures. The Bible, which teaches the path to salvation and a life of faith, is the authority over human life.

  • We believe the church is God’s instrument to build His kingdom.

“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”      -2 Corinthians 5:20

The Rochester Free Methodist Church exists to serve as an outpost. As the Outpost, we seek to:

  • Welcome and serve our communities
  • Prepare, strengthen, and encourage ambassadors of Christ
“I do everything I can to win everyone I possibly can.
I do all this for the good news, because I want to share in its blessings.”  -1 Corinthians 9:22b-23

As the Outpost, we will continually expand our reach by actively and intentionally doing everything we can to share the love of Jesus and win everyone for the cause of Christ.

“May the Lord make your love for each other and for everyone else grow by leaps and bounds. That’s how our love for you has grown.”   -1Thessalonians 3:12

Our mission statement: doing everything possible to help people know Christ, become like Him, and make Him known.

Because ministry matters most, we value:

  • Prayer

We will pray and humbly seek God’s will to guide our future.

  • Service

We will constantly explore opportunities to reach and serve members of our communities.

  • Love

We will exemplify what the amazing love of Jesus can do in someone’s life.

  • Discipleship

We will provide opportunities for growth.  We want to help all believers to grow in their relationship with Christ, making it possible for them to become great “fruit bearers” for Him.
